  • What should we bring to class?

To start, just have your child show up in comfortable workout clothes and bring a water bottle! Eventually, students are expected to purchase a uniform and basic sparring gear (gloves and shin guards). Once students pass into yellow belt and beyond its important to get the rest of the equipment listed in our student handbook.

  • Is it safe?

We take all the precautions necessary to ensure a safe, welcoming class for everyone. Instructors are fully first-aid certified and have emergency equipment on hand in case of injury. Weapons and equipment are only handled under direct supervision and are designed for use by children.

  • Can Parents Watch?

Absolutely! We welcome parents or relatives to come observe any class, but it is not required to stay on site during training.

  • What do I do if I'm going to miss class?

If you are able you can send us a message through the gymdesk app, or contact us via email that is great. Attendance is taken at the start of each class and we will get in touch if a student misses a few in a row.

  • How do I get promoted?

We don’t tie advancement to a number of classes, if a student is ready to test, they will be put up for the next belt. This generally takes around 14-20 classes or 2-3 months of solid training.

  • How can I contact an instructor after hours?

  • What if my child has neurodiversity, special needs, a disability or learning difficulties?

While we will do our best to accomodate all children, it is a requirement that a child is able to perform general fitness activities in a group environment to take part in our lessons. We can also provide private lessons or a referral to a partner dojo that specializes in working with children with disabilities.

If you are unsure or have questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to discuss with us.

  • What do I wear under my gi?

Whatever you feel most comfortable in! Some members wear a t-shirt or a rash guard under their gi, while others may go with just the gi and nothing underneath. Do what feels best to you!

  • I have a belt rank from another style, what should I wear to class?

Please wear your white belt, but bring your colour belt along. An instructor will evaluate your abilities to convert your rank to our style.
