Taikyoku Shodan: Home Practice Basic Techniques Video
I have created a home practice video to help support my white belt students as they learn their first kata: Taikyoku Shodan!
Follow along with me as I demonstrate the techniques needed for this kata to solidify your basics and be more prepared for practice in the dojo.
The karate kata Taikyoku Shodan only has 3 basic hand techniques: punch (tsuki), down block (gedan barai) and rising block (jodan uke) and is a requirement for the promotion to yellow belt in our karate system. This kata has its origins in Shotokan karate and its often referred to as the hardest to learn; but only because it’s the very first one! All other kata build off of this one, so it’s important to have the movements and hand techniques down before moving on.
Add this home practice to your routine once or twice a week and see if you can improve!
